SYNAPSE is a Take One initiative created to bring education, hands-on learning, and real conversation into one focused environment. The goal is simple: spark fresh ideas, deepen understanding, and strengthen the community across broadcast, filmmaking, live production, and church environments.

While our inaugural event centered on Sony’s cinematic ecosystem, SYNAPSE is intentionally designed to grow far beyond cameras. It’s a series built to help professionals navigate the full landscape of modern production from control room design and HDR to SMPTE 2110, workflow strategy, and the future of storytelling.

Why SYNAPSE Exists

We created Synapse because we kept hearing the same questions from teams across the industry:

  • How do I design a control room that will last?
  • Do I need SMPTE 2110, or is it overkill?
  • Should I invest in 4K?
  • Where can I actually see and compare this equipment before making decisions?

People needed a place to explore technology without pressure, without assumptions, and without the “figure it out on your own” frustration that so many face.

So we built SYNAPSE around four core values:

Connection

Bridging the gap between creatives, technicians, ministries, and production teams who rarely get to learn in the same room.

Collaboration

Fostering genuine community over competition. At our first event, this value proved true as we had filmmakers, church leaders, production directors, freelancers, and manufacturers all engaging together.

Clarity

Making complex technology approachable. From cinematic workflows to IP infrastructure, attendees walked away with clearer understanding, not more confusion.

Craft

Celebrating excellence in storytelling, engineering, and design. This event wasn’t about showing gear it was about elevating the craft behind it.

The First Synapse Event

A Cinematic Experience Powered by Sony

To launch the series, we partnered with Sony, who brought a powerful lineup of cinema tools and industry experts. Their involvement elevated the entire experience and set a strong precedent for future manufacturer partnerships.

Attendees received hands-on access to Sony’s latest Cine lineup including the FX30, FX2, FX3, FX6, FR7, AM7, Burano, Venice 2, and the new HDC-F5500, accompanied by in-depth teaching from Joe Schimizzi, Tom Cubby, Bill Sheffer, and Chad Vegas.

This event served as the proof of concept — demonstrating what SYNAPSE will continue to be: a place where knowledge, creativity, and genuine relationships intersect.

Who Showed Up

The response to this first event made something very clear: people are hungry for this kind of environment.

  • 49 organizations represented
  • 38 total attendees
  • Mix of filmmakers, directors, church creatives, broadcast engineers, pastors, freelancers, and even other manufacturers
  • Attendees drove from across the region
  • Many expressed interest in future workshops and deeper breakout sessions

That diversity isn’t accidental — it’s the heart of SYNAPSE.

What Happened in the Room

The energy was real. Not just around the cameras, though the lineup drew plenty of excitement, but around the conversations:

  • Workflow questions
  • Color science comparisons
  • Studio vs. cinematic tradeoffs
  • Creative collaboration
  • Networking between organizations who had never met

People stayed long after their registered session because they didn’t want the conversations to end. That’s exactly what SYNAPSE was designed to create.
